Into the Liminal Zone – 6 steps to go from surviving to thriving in the face of clinical uncertainty

Did you know that uncertainty in clinical practice when poorly managed not only decreases patient confidence and trust in the system but increases stress, anxiety and burnout amongst clinicians as well as increasing healthcare costs?

This half day workshop explores the factors that influence uncertainty in practice and proposes a simple six-step framework to approach it. 

Delivered by a clinician with over 23 years’ experience as a GP and a GP with extended role in specialist pain and spine MSK services this engaging and entertaining course will help build you and your team’s confidence in day-to-day practice.

Course aims:

  • Explore the context of uncertainty, what it is and the patient, clinician and contextual factors that influence it.
  • Considering our own clinical biases and influences
  • Explore a framework to approach uncertainty as an individual and as a team
  • Consider approaches to communicating uncertainty to our patients

Learning structure

This will be an interactive teaching approach making use of short presentations and clinical case/problem-based approach to enhance learning, with plenty of opportunity for discussion. Delegates will be encouraged to share their own experiences and reflect on their practice.

Delegates will be issued a pdf copy of “The six step approach to uncertainty” with reference materials and a template to record reflections.
